Edible Travel: The Santa Barbara Road Trip

If  you’ve ever visited California, let’s hope Santa Barbara was on your list of places you stopped. Situated on the coast of California between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara has a Mediterranean climate. With its microclimates and rich soil, the Santa Barbara region is also home to more than 50 grape varietals, more than 180 wineries, and more than 1000 farms! Eating great, locally produced food and wine is easier here than it is almost anywhere else in the country, making it a coveted stop on our Edible Road Trip.

Krista Harris is a fifth generation Californian who was born and raised in San Diego. She moved to Santa Barbara to attend UC Santa Barbara, fell in love with area, and has lived here ever since. Her first job was working for a local newspaper and since then she has worked as an editor, graphic designer, and creative director in the corporate world. But local food has been her passion since she first started shopping at farmers’ markets in the mid-1980s. In 2009 she started Edible Santa Barbara, covering the food and wine culture of Santa Barbara County. Krista holds a B.A. in Film Studies from UC Santa Barbara. Krista is active in the community, and has served on the Partnership Council of the Community Environmental Council and is currently a board member at the Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens. And she can still be seen shopping regularly at the farmers’ markets with Steve Brown, her husband and co-publisher of Edible Santa Barbara.
